Now that the US Senate has passed the Twenty-first Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (S. 3304), what is the next step for online content providers of broadcast media? What are the costs involved in adding closed captions to a large inventory of online media?

Adding closed captions to online media can be costly, but it does not have to be.

If closed captioning data is already encoded into a broadcast video signal, a simple solution is readily at hand. Most streaming capture devices will allow you pull that data and encode it as a part of your stream. The only thing needed is to render this data in the online player window. Depending on your needs, this can be accomplished, with very little or no development.

If you have a sizable inventory of encoded online video that requires captioning after the fact, significant costs can be incurred. But there are ways to minimize this. Take advantage of our experience to find the best solution for your needs.
